Conspiracy of the Cats

Three cats live in the house next door. They had learned to peacefully co-exist with all the dogs in the neighborhood. But somehow those feelings did not transfer to all humans, especially my husband. For they loved to get in the carport and mess on our car. He was forever chasing them away.

As fate would have it the folks next door asked us to do them a favor. Since they were locked into a timeshare on the beach (in another county) they needed to take that week. Their request was to put the cats out of the house in the AM and let them back in at night. Since I was laid up with a fractured hip, the duty fell upon my husband who was definitely a dog lover.

However, for our good neighbors, he would do anything. There would be no one home because my friends' mother was gone, and that is the only thing they asked of us.
These cats definitely have minds of their own. Two were pretty well behaved but the black one would run in the bedroom and hide. He would sneak out when the other two were receiving treats and he was nowhere to be found. The weather was horrendous for the temperature had dropped to nearly freezing. The shelters are open because of this and they are advising people to bring in their pets.

Well, needless to say, I sure prayed that my husband didn't catch pneumonia from trying to find that black cat.

Her son is supposed to come and feed them; we hoped he would show up soon. Seems he did come, though we never saw him.
After the cold spell snapped and things began to warm up, the neighbors came home but the black cat still prowls the neighborhood. We still see him slinking around the yards, hiding in the bushes at any time of the day or night . He still gets on our car (paw prints, and mess are the telltale signs). I can only deduce that those cats definitely had a conspiracy against us however they survived and so did my husband.

I must admit they look fat and healthy, even though they seemed to live on treats for a week. Was that their intent after all?
