The Last Gasp of Winter

It had been a long hard winter season.
Spring was just around the corner.
Suddenly the snow came without reason.
There went dreams of days much warmer.
The final dusting of snow was the last good-bye.
As the cold wind trumpeted the end with a sigh.
Bundle up before you venture out and about.
Perhaps these are the last days without a doubt
For the calendar predicts winters bitter end,
So the lovely days of spring can ascend.
Soon the flowers will bloom beautiful and lush.
The little animals will descend from the brush.
Soft warm breezes will blow,
Forgotten will be the snow.
Love will be the order of the day,
With gifts of candy and bouquets.
This year will be welcomed in advance
By pledges and actions of romance
So long you last gasp of wintertime.
You must die and give way to springtime.
