It Is Finished

The Bible tells the story of how our Lord,
Suffered the abuses of the dreadful hoard.
This ordeal was almost over, he raised his head,
With this a few lonely tears were shed.

He uttered a sigh and a request "I thirst!"
The sky darkened as if the clouds would burst.
A sponge with wine was put it to his lip.
It was soaked on a sprig of hyssop.

When Jesus had taken the wine,
He acted in accordance with the grand design.
"It is finished" were the last words he said.
He handed over his spirit as he bowed his head.

With this the sky erupted with a clash of thunder,
The lightening bolt was asunder.
The earth began to quake, the crowd shook in fear.
For it was obvious something terrible had happened here.

The masses fell in horror, to their knees.
As the wind uprooted bushes and trees,
The curtain in the temple was ripped in two.
Terror gripped the crowd through and through.

My Dear Jesus, my heart aches at the events,
Of man's brutality and all it represents.
I am grateful for your willing sacrifice
That assures mankind's eternal life.

Come Holy Spirit I beg of you.
Let my faith be restored anew.
Please reserve me an honored place.
So I may bathe in Your Lord's embrace.
