Courage of a Hero's Heart

Once you were addressed by the Supreme Allied Commander,
Who approached with open genuine candor.
For he must have seen that you possessed a common trait
to fulfill the mission regardless of the fate.

You were seem right from the start.
To possess the courage of a hero's heart.
At nineteen you were fearless and brave
Even if it meant dancing on your own grave

You promised to do your best, in battle you did engage
Despite being surrounded by a mountain of carnage.
You established a record of service of which to be proud,
For you fulfilled everything you ever vowed.

Grit and determination got you through the wars and strife
Faith and obedience in our Lord will prevail in this life
Ed, you are a patriot and a hero to many a mortal
When the time comes you will grace God's portal

Till then we will cherish every moment you are in our midst
And feel we have been eternally loved and blessed
By a man of your stature, kindness, humor and caring
We feel so privileged to spend our lives in total sharing.

All during our lifetime, we are but a heartbeat away
From ,joining our loved ones on any given day.
Regardless of what the future brings.
Our wish is that you are carried on Eagles wings.
