The coming storm was precipitated by cloudy days,
The birds of the air hunkered down in their ways.
Even big farm animals curled up under the trees,
In order to get away from the impending breeze.
We grasped one another to allay our fears.
For this was to be the biggest storm in years.
A fierce wind gave way to a heavy rain,
Making our balance difficult to maintain.
The temperature dropped leaving everyone cold.
Even, human tempers seemed uncontrolled.
Grandfather cautioned us not to walk to far,
But as usual, we thought his thinking was bizarre.
That was until we saw our Dad coming to fetch us
He scooped us up without a major fuss.
We were so glad to see his loving smile
When he said "Gee I thought you were going a mile"
We were so glad to get back to the farm.
For we had escaped the storms harm.
Grandmother had a big pot of hot chocolate made.
A fire in the potbelly stove where we once played.
Every now and then we heard the wind howl,
The storm outside let out a familiar growl.
We were safe with our loved ones and cozy inside.
Now all there was to do was wait for it to subside.
