Home to God

Dedicated to Our Son Russell Todd Oliver

The time will come for us all, that we must give someone we love
Back to or Father in heaven above.
The time came for us to let go to our beloved son.
For his time on this earth was done.
My training prepared me for what would come,
Even tho it left me feeling very numb.
We sat by his side and I spoke so that he could hear.
My husband bent forward so as to be near.

"My darling boy I think I know what is happening.
You spoke of preparing and planning.
You know you're going to meet God,
He is waiting for you Todd."
So stop worrying about Daddy and me.
You are thirty three your work is complete,
You know how much we love you,
Heaven awaits it is true."
He looked at me to see if I had stopped.
To his Dad , He said "How about you Pops?"
My husband reassured him of the same.
With that Todd sighed "Thank God - No more pain."

Through that night we sat at his bedside.
I instinctively held his hand and softly cried.
I listened to his labored breathing and knew,
That it was not long and they would subdue.
It was then I felt a presence at my side,
I knew Jesus was there to usher him home.
With God the Father in the heavenly dome.
I prayed he would carry him in his arms,
Keep his cold and lifeless body warm.
One last kiss to my soldier son.
The angels await him, for he is a special one.
