Geronimo's Tales by Carol G Oliver

Making a Home visit

One day the angel fairy came running to Geronimo waving a letter.
This was unusual for almost everybody wrote him e-mail these days. Kind of old fashioned to send a hand written note. This was especially nice in that it was from the foxabee family expressing a thank you and an invitation, for him and the little girl to come to dinner. Now that presented a dilemma in that what might they serve? Geronimo could not see himself munching down on worms or even some of the other fare.

After all no one knew what elves had as a diet. He went out into his garden and looked at his veggies, which he dusted with magic elf dust, and then pulled up a magnificent yellow stalk that looked like it was broccoli (only yellow and very big) it had a sweet lemony taste almost like hard candy. It was named Colidrop.

He gave this serious thought and then sent e-mail to Lil Boss to see if he thought he should go. After all this was not work related.
He got a quick reply from Lil Boss who said "By all means go for we need to keep good relations with all the inhabitants on Earth. Besides that things were quiet and he would cover anything that came in." This delighted Geronimo for this arrangement would work out nicely for everyone. Never before had he felt free enough just to take off and not be available but just in case he programmed an away message on his computer and left a message to his blackberry that he carried. He responded to the Foxabee family that he would come as requested.

He fetched some juice he kept for company, which was a combination of blueberry, blackberry and strawberry. Most humans take wine but elves stick with straight juice. He put on his wings, whistled for a moonbeam and started his journey to Florida on Earth.

Of course he stopped in to say hello to Alyssa and her Mom. It was good to just stop in and feel so loved. When he told Alyssa about the letter she was amazed they knew how to write. She also declined to go, for it seems they had plans already made that could not be changed. She asked Geronimo to go give them her regards and apology for not coming. But to tell them thank you.

Geronimo headed for the thicket and hoped he could find it but he got out his trusty Garmin and punched in Foxabee's home. As he got closer he noticed that the thicket has been trimmed and there stood Floxby waving wildly. He was jumping up and down.

Geronimo thought to himself "I guess I have to teach him the jig along with my fairy angel” Maybe I should start classes. Now wouldn't the Boss love that if he turned make-believe land into Erin?
He chuckled to himself.

All of a sudden he found himself standing in front of a door (woven of huge thatched branches. He stepped inside an enclosed room with cushions of leaves stuffed with baby fur. The reason foxby was so light in color is that they were second generation foxabees, and his hair had not turned red yet. Just then a large Foxabee approached with an outstretched hand.

"Hello, I am Fred Foxabee! So glad to meet you Geronimo and can't thank you enough for helping Floxby in his moment of crisis" Geronimo shook Fred's hand and then handed him the juice.

He was pleased to meet all the family, Fred (the father), Flora (the mother) and Franklin the big brother).

They ate; he shared his Colidrop which they all seemed to enjoy, but Geronimo passed on the worms and tried some of their carrots (which by the way were not bad, once you brushed them off), they spent time visiting and playing games. Soon it was time to go home for he did not want to miss the moonbeam. He had given them an appointed time for pick up. Again he thanked them for their cordiality, which means (showing warm and heartfelt friendliness).

They all walked him to the edge of the thicket waved good-bye as he whistled for the moonbeam.
What a nice family he thought to himself, he had a lot to relay to the boss. My world is sure made up of all sorts of folk. With this thought he remembered all the children and the human family.

He sure was one lucky elf to have his job and be able to learn all this stuff. He would remember them all in his prayers.
