Geronimo received a text message on his cell phone asking for his help. The children just didn't know what to do. Their grandfather lived alone and they made it a habit to check on him frequently.
One afternoon they stopped by only to find the grandfather gone and on his table was an empty hat and a full mug. Now he never went anywhere without his favorite hat and being a dandy Irish gent he never left a full mug of ale.
This made the children fear that something had happened to him. They had no one else to call but Geronimo and some mighty intervention. They felt Geronimo and God would know what to do.
Geronimo sent a message to his boss explaining the situation and then called for a moonbeam while he put on his fairy wings. Quicker than a shake of a cats tail he was on his way to earth. It was true just as the children said there was the empty hat and the full mug. This was indeed serious so with presence of mind (that means for you little children --simply he was a quick thinker)that he put out a call to all the weather checkers to watch for the old man and then let him know if they spotted him.
Ole Shaunesey must be in trouble....for no one saw him.
Geronimo shook his head and stroked his chin (he sometimes did that when he was puzzled).
He looked to see what the children were doing and he found them in a circle holding hands and saying a prayer. This just broke his heart. It was time to get the police involved so the parents of the children issued a silver alert.
This did the trick for in a state up north from them they got a call.
It was Shaunesey on the phone. It seems that an old friend had stopped by and invited him to a friendly poker game. It wasn't until they got to New Jersey that he remembered his lucky hat.. He promised he would be home the next day for that was when his friend was coming back .
Geronimo decided to spend the night and make sure the old gent was alright. He curled up at the foot of the young boys bed and went fast asleep. Looking for people was a taxing job. Sometime during the night he heard a terrible commotion. When he looked out to his surprise there stood Shaunesey bedraggled and weary looking. It seems he ran out of money and his friend wanted to play on thru the night. So he had hitched a ride home with a pig farmer(boy did he smell).
All he kept saying was "never again, never again!!!!"
Of course the children were so glad to see him, and were dancing circles around him. Each of them holding their nose as they danced.
When Shaunesey saw this he just laughed and started doing the jig while holding his own nose. He had his hat on and the mug was half full.
After securing a promise from him that he would never again just go off without telling someone, Geronimo felt things were at least semi normal and he could go back home.
The children thanked him and off he went.
